  Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi 

  Society can change who you are what you wear and how you are treated in your life. The book Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi 
is about a young girl living her life in a war zone. She is exposed to violence ,abuse,and treated like a criminal,because of the choices she makes in society.

  It was forbidden for women not to wear the veil. If they refused to wear it they would be forced to stay in prison. People believed religiously that a young girls hair excites a man which leads to rape."Guns may shoot and knives may carve but we wont wear  your silly scarves",the women protested.Suddenly the scarf or beating happened and a group of men would violently attack the young girls protesting."For the first time in my life i had seen violence with my own eyes",said Marjane. Women shouldn't have to wear something to control a mans action. Rape has nothing to do with disrespectful amateurs who cant control their lust for young girls. 

  Womens rights was a big issue in Persepolis women were treated with no respect."they said that women like me should be pushed against a wall and fucked and then thrown in the garbage" This was directed towards Marjanes mother. "They also told me that if i didn't want that to happen i should wear my veil".Men gave woman respect if they wore their veils. "Do you know what they do to young girls when they are arrested","You know its against the law to kill a virgin","So you know what they did  to her she was forced to marry than her virginity was taken away and she was executed",Virginity was a young girls way to surviving if she looses it she is no longer worthy of respect. She should be thrown away after she has lost it like a piece of garbage. A womens virginity should only be important to herself and not to others!

In Persepolis Marjane is forced to abandon what she wears even if it means something to her she is also forced to lie about her religious practices . "I have told you a million times jewelry is forbidden",says Marjanes instructor jewelery was banned Religiously because it doesn't signify purity on a young girl. "If anyone asks you what you do during the day you say you pray i don't want anyone thinking bad about you",yells Marjanes mother. One day Marjanes friend had asked how many times do you pray and she responded with a lie. "I pray maybe about 5 times a day", he says. "I pray maybe 11 sometimes even 12 times a day", says Marjane. The only  reason Marjane had to lie about her practices is because society forces religion on us sometimes and people judge you.

 Rape and dress coding are something that i can connect to women are forced to dress a certain way so they aren't a distraction in class  and they aren't disrespected by men when they walk out of their house. Religion is something that is different for all of us and it shouldn't be forced into our lives if we don't want it too. And sometimes women wear aren't responsible for mens actions. We aren't toys virginity is something we choose to deal with because we choose our life society doesn't.

Marjane Satrapi is an outsider because she is rebellious and persistent.  Marjane wanted to protest and fight for her country with her parents not knowing how dangerous it was to do so. Marjane is different because she wants to do so much good she doesn't realize the bad.When the women in Marjanes country how wear a hi jab she didn't wear one she thought that woman shouldn't have to dress a certain way because of the sake of rapists nonreligious theories that people believed in. "women need their freedom ",said Marjane.This shows how Marjane is rebellious in a good and persistent way.

 The Shaws father is an enemy because he puts the country in tragedy and loss.   The shaws father creates child slavery in order for them to survive . He imprisons innocent souls and abuses them.  
He separates people by social class and makes people feel different in society ." Nothing will stop this country from being powerful even if it means killing the innocents",The shaws father says.

Marjane mother is  Marjanes protector she helps Marjane through her struggles and helps Marjane when she is in deep need. "You are more than just a woman Marjane you  are stronger than ever".Marjanes mom gives her inspiration and motivation. "She is a woman too now she needs to be able to stand up for her rights". Marjanes mother is understanding through Marjanes rebellious way and she gets that Marjane is different and doesn't stop her from giving Marjane hope.

The giver by Louis Lowry  


 Everything  in Jonas's world is perfect and under control. There is no pain sorrow and abundance there are no choices society makes choices for you.When Jonas becomes twelve he is assigned one of the most important honors in society which is the job as the receiver of true pain and pleasures of life.The giver is assigned to give Jonas these memories in order for Jonas to turn them into knowledge.When Jonas receives these memories he is faced with the truth of of life and how it is sometimes never under control and life isn't as perfect as it seems.In the beginning of the book Jonas is emotionless and bland and doesn't conceive the reality of life.

  "why cant everyone see them"? "Why did they disappear"?,Jonas asked.The giver shrugged our people chose to go to sameness thats why no can see colors" Jonas is overwhelmed and doesn't know why society is the same."We gained control of many things but let go of others",said the giver."We shouldn't have!",Jonas said fiercely.This shows how Jonas is feeling infuriated about how people let go of differences like color. "You have come very quickly to that conclusion",said the giver. Jonas is having emotions about the memories. "It isn't fair what if  i wake up one day and don't have the choice of wearing a blue tunic or a red one",Jonas said. Jonas is beginning to have emotions about the memories of color he is receiving.

After the memory of pain Jonas is faced with the feeling of being damaged and helpless a feeling Jonas has never quite felt before."Jonas has never heard quite a sound before it was the sound of grief and rage. The day Jonas had been hurt while having the memory of the elephant dying was the day Jonas cried out of sorrow for the creature. He had never felt the feeling of sorrow before and in Jonas's world people weren't allowed to cry because of the perfect world Jonas was living in.He was confused and shocked by the feelings he received. 

 If people were all the same the world would have no differences no emotions no reality to it. And thats what Jonas learns.The world is filled with these things and sometimes we need to face them.

                       DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth  

Leaving your family and being buried in fear is a challenge that Tris faces and must overcome. Divergent is about a young girl who lives in a society where there are groups called factions. There are 5 factions:candor the faction of honesty,amity the faction of serenity and kindness, abnegation the faction of selflessness,erudite the faction of pedantry and knowledge, and lastly the dauntless, the faction of courage and bravery.Tris comes from the abnegation faction known as the stiffs who have there own nickname which is more than enough to handle. At the age of 16, each teenager from all factions has to pick a faction to stay in forever, either choosing to stay in the faction they were born in or joining another faction, leaving their families behind forever.When Tris chooses to live in a different faction she  takes on the biggest fear of her life, knowing that if she fails in her new faction she will  become faction-less. The factions were made in order for society to become a better place, and as long as everyone had a role society would be at peace. Tris is 16 she is originally from the abnegation the colorless clothing ponderous life is basically what this faction is all about. Tris has always been diverted towards the dauntless.When its time for the choosing ceremony her and her brother Caleb will soon start a different life which could also mean they never see each other or there parents again. Tris known from the stiff faction chose to be a dauntless.But Tris has a big secret she doesn't really know much about. She is divergent, meaning she can fit in to 3 factions. The test should only result in one faction given.

 In the beginning of the book Divergent Tris was weak and fragile. When training started for the dauntless it was rough knowing Eric one of the dauntless leaders in charge. Fighting the other players didn't allow Tris to get ranked high in order to not stay faction less. When asked to fight peter and Molly all Tris got out of the fight was a bloody nose. Eric was so infuriated with Tris he decided she was to become faction less but Tris didn't give up she was quick to chase after the train filled with dauntless including Eric. During the stimulation training which  allows the dauntless to face there fears  using there illusions, Tris was Divergent which meant she could easily get out of her illusions faster than others. But the other dauntless in training felt threatened by her stimulation skills so they tried to kill her. But that didn't stop Tris from completing her training she ignored the fact that the other dauntless wanted to end her life. She was strong and fearless she was becoming a dauntless. Another example of Tris being a strong character was when her father and mother died when trying to save the other factions from the erudite. Tris had to over look the fact her parents were dead and still managed to save the factions from the erudite. Tris is a strong persistent character after all shes been through.
